PHOTOGRAPHY ROOTED IN LUXEMBOURG

I’m a professional photographer and artist working in Luxembourg since 2008. Over the years, I’ve built an extensive photographic archive of the Grand Duchy, from Luxembourg City and its architecture to the country’s landscapes, forests, castles, heritage and nature.

My work combines fine art photography with professional projects. I create photographic artworks and installations for offices, businesses and institutions, undertake commissioned photography projects and license existing images for print, publishing, websites and commercial use. My photographs are also available as fine art prints, and I’ve been teaching photography through regular courses, private lessons and workshops since 2015.

PHOTOGRAPHING LUXEMBOURG

Luxembourg has been at the centre of my photography for much of my career. I regularly return to the same landscapes, viewpoints and neighbourhoods throughout the year, following changes in light, weather and season. Working in the country over such a long period has gradually created an extensive archive covering both familiar landmarks and places that are less often photographed.

My long-term work around the changing seasons led to the Seasons of Luxembourg collection. Photographs from this body of work have been exhibited at venues including the European Investment Bank and Cercle Munster and have become part of private, corporate and institutional collections.

Landscape remains an important part of what I photograph, but the archive has gradually become much broader. Luxembourg City, contemporary and historic architecture, forests, rivers, castles, villages, industrial sites and the quieter details of the landscape all form part of my ongoing documentation of the country.

FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHY & INSTALLATIONS

My photographs are collected as individual fine art prints, but they have also become part of much larger projects in offices, headquarters, reception areas, care facilities and other professional interiors.

These projects range from a single large-format artwork to installations involving photographs throughout an entire building. At Spuerkeess, 24 photographic works were installed in the historic 19 Liberté building in Luxembourg City. For SERVIOR’s Op Acker care facility in Bascharage, the project involved 250 artworks distributed throughout the building.

Other installations and acquisitions have involved companies, institutions and private collectors in Luxembourg and abroad. Over the years, close to 1,000 of my photographic works have been acquired for private and professional spaces.

For larger installations, I can work with clients from the initial selection of photographs and choice of formats and finishes through to production, delivery and installation. A selection of these projects can be found on my Art for Business page.

EXHIBITIONS, BOOKS & PUBLICATIONS

Exhibiting photography has always been another part of my work. One of my largest exhibitions to date, Home and Away — Landscapes by Christophe Van Biesen, was presented at the Contemporary Art Gallery Am Tunnel in Luxembourg and brought together more than 130 photographs from Luxembourg and from my travels around the world.

Travel has given me the opportunity to photograph very different landscapes, cities and environments, but it has also influenced the way I look at Luxembourg when I return. Seeing familiar places repeatedly, in different conditions and after working elsewhere, remains an important part of how my photographic work continues to develop.

Alongside exhibitions, my photographs have appeared in books, magazines and other editorial publications. A selection of exhibitions, articles, interviews and publications can be found on my Press page.

WORKING WITH CLIENTS

Alongside my personal work, I work with businesses, institutions, architects and other organisations in Luxembourg. The starting point depends on what a project actually needs.

Sometimes the right images already exist in my archive. They can be selected as artworks for an interior or licensed for websites, publishing, campaigns and other print or digital uses.

Other projects require photographs that do not yet exist. My commissioned photography includes architecture and real estate, landscape and destination photography, and corporate or institutional projects created around a specific location, building or brief.

I also work with companies looking for corporate gifts from Luxembourg, using my photography across prints, books and other products depending on the project and quantity required.

TEACHING PHOTOGRAPHY

I’ve been teaching photography since 2015. Today this includes regular photography courses as well as private lessons, small-group sessions and outdoor photography workshops in Luxembourg.

Teaching has become a natural extension of my own photographic practice. Understanding light, composition or the technical choices behind an image is one thing; explaining those decisions to somebody else often makes me look at my own way of working differently too.

STUDIO & CONTACT

My studio and atelier are currently situated in Hobscheid, Luxembourg. This is where I prepare prints and projects, meet clients and work on selections from the photographic archive. Visits can be arranged by appointment.
