Autumn in Luxembourg

Autumn is my favourite season, when the trees and their leaves match the sunset colours of the sky. I will remember the Autumn of 2014 for its nice sunny days. While 2013 was very difficult to make some decent pictures because the weather just wasn't right most of time, 2014 turned out to have that nice balance between colourful trees and sunny autumn-days.

Incandescence

My favourite picture of this year's Autumn would probably be this classic view on the Banque et Caisse d'Épargne de l'État and its tower amidst the colourful Pétrusse-valley. While I walked through the city, I tried to recreate some of the pictures I have made so many times already, each at different times, with different light conditions and different skies. No other season is as colourful as Autumn, when the last sunlight touches the yellow and orange trees, right before the Sun disappears behind the horizon. And once that Sun has vanished, the sky suddenly tries to colour itself as beautifully as the rest of nature. Sometimes it succeeds, but most of the time it does not quite match the incandescent hues of the forests.

The Old Bridge

This view from the other side of the Pétrusse valley shows Luxembourg's Old Bridge, also known as the Viaduct or the Passerelle. It's a less well known sight, with less prominent landmarks than some other views of the capital, but it was the perfect spot to capture some of the colourful trees and also see the sky light up like it rarely does.

Here are some more pictures made during Autumn in Luxembourg City.

A Walk in the Woods

This year, I also wanted to create some moody forest picture by walking through the woods during sunrise or sunset and capturing the fading light sparkling through the disrobing trees. The results are sunbursts, shadows and magical reflections. Autumn is definitely the best season to walk through the forests.

Now, Winter is slowly finding its way to Luxembourg. Nature is going to sleep and temperatures are dropping fast these days. Now I can only hope that we get some nice snow with a couple of cold but sunny days.
